LOW LEVEL AIR AMBULANCE

Following a fall aboard ship, a young electrician sustained skull fractures with a high risk of inter-cranial bleeding and air inside the skull.

Having been alerted by the client insurance company, our doctor immediately established communications with the team treating the patient in Bejaia, a small port in Algeria on the north African coast.

It was quickly decided that, owing to the nature of the injury, this patient could not tolerate flight on a commercial airline as the cabin pressure is very low. Low pressure would have a direct effect on the patient and it was decided that an air ambulance was the only option—flying at low level with the cabin pressurised to sea level.

The flight was arranged and the patient was flown to Police, in Poland where he was immediately admitted to a neurosurgical unit and, happily , made a full recovery.

Advanced diagnostics are not always available or reliable in remote locations. Evacuating certain classes of patient need carful planning.

A patient with head injuries air lifted out of Bejaia, Algeria to Poland at low level.

Date: November 2008

Through our global network, emergency responses by air ambulance can be arranged to remote areas to extract seriously ill or injured patients.
