Medical Rescue International (MRI) was founded in 1989 with a particular focus on recovery and repatriation of patients worldwide. The company has a strong history of assisting a large Maritime client base. Additionally, private and travel insurance clients have been regular users of our service.

MRI has gathered a wealth of experience at assisting, recovering and repatriating patients from anywhere in the world  to their home country.

International Assistance (Maritime Medical) is provided in the following areas:

MRI’s Operations have also expanded to include Drug and Alcohol Testing in the UK and internationally. Typically the company will provide random sampling and analysis for employers, sporting bodies and institutions.

Event Medical Cover—MRI has a permanent staff of professional Ambulance / Rescue personnel who operate a fully equipped fleet of ambulances to provide front line emergency care at many events, particularly in the sporting field.

Patient Transfers by ground utilising well equipped, clean ambulances staffed by properly trained ambulance personnel can be done within the UK and Europe.

First Aid Training which is compliant with (UK) First Aid regulations and HSE guidelines is also provided by MRI.

Aims and Objectives

We aim to provide a professional, timely and cost effective consultancy service assisting clients to make medical decisions in the face of the often conflicting demands of the patient's condition, geography, business, politics, religion, relatives and insurance.

Our ambition is to be the first number to be called when a client has any medical case or enquiry, even if it is only for a quick check to confirm that everything has been considered before a proposed course of action is followed.

History

Founded in 1989, with a strong bias towards assisting the maritime sector,  Medical Rescue International (MRI) has migrated from being part of two earlier enterprises to a company operating independently - but still with a strong maritime bias.

In 1989 Rowland Raikes (Director ) had completed 22 years in the Royal Navy and was, as a director of  International Maritime Security Ltd, providing the cruise ship industry with anti terrorist advice, assistance and personnel. Dr Joe Baker (Medical Director) was running his own GP practice and providing medical cover for local sporting events and horse race courses. The maritime security business led to requests for medical assistance for seafarers in distant parts of the world. The doctor was discovered and proved willing and more than capable and Medical Rescue International (MRI) was born. Over the last nineteen years we have been tasked by all the major P & I Clubs on behalf of their members, and also often directly by ship owners, operators and managers.

Over the last nineteen years or so, particularly as a result of  experiences in our Maritime Services we have had some very interesting and challenging cases in different parts of the world, and we have dedicated a   News and Case History  page on this site for some of them. We have chosen to describe those which we think demonstrate a particular problem or insights of a medical or practical nature, and our news page will feature a new case from time to time. Names and  locations may be disguised to protect privacy.
