In 1989 Rowland Raikes (Director ) had completed 22 years in the Royal Navy and was,
as a director of International Maritime Security Ltd, providing the cruise ship industry with anti terrorist advice,
assistance and personnel. Dr Joe Baker (Medical Director)
was running his own GP practice and providing medical cover for local sporting events and
horse race courses. The maritime security business led to requests for medical assistance
for seafarers in distant parts of the world. The doctor was discovered and proved willing and more than capable and Medical
Rescue International (MRI) was born. Over the last fifteen years we have been tasked by all the
major P & I Clubs on behalf of their members, and also often directly by shipowners, operators and managers.
